Visual effects Academy Award Winner Gray Horsfield is best known and world renowned for his ground breaking special effects in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Gray started his career working as a digital artist on THE FRIGHTENERS at Weta Digital with Peter Jackson on creative and digital effects. He then worked on Robert Zemeckis' CONTACT, which was one of the first movies with a budget of over $90 million to be produced in Gray's native New Zealand.
During the epic work phase on LORD OF THE RINGS he worked his way up to digital visual effects designer and creator and was honored with an Academy Award.
Gray's credits include KING KONG (2005) as the Digital Destruction Supervisor (Weta Digital Ltd.), THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (2001) in conceptual digital visualization (WETA Digital/digital visual effects designer & creator Wellington/New Zealand) and CONTACT (1997) as a digital artist.
