Rod has been active in the independent film business in British Columbia since 2000. His education in finance and film during his Bachelor of Commerce at U.B.C., and his lifelong love of provocative and unusual cinema, have served him well as he has become highly involved in local production. He began his local career at Prophecy Entertainment as a producer’s assistant, working on the financing and production of Ripper: Letter From Hell. This resulted in his quick advancement to Business Affairs Coordinator. Upon joining H3O Filmed Entertainment in 2001 Rod continued developing his production skills on the picture Watchtower. Recently Rod produced the local 35mm short film Tall-Tale Heart and served as executive producer on Ripper II.
Rod is currently the sole Canadian producer on H3O’s next feature film The Void, which will be shot from October 2004. He will also act as producer on the upcoming feature The Abducted to be shot in early 2005.
Rod also has been highly involved in film distribution and has been attending all major film markets since 2001 and has developed many contacts in the international film community including distributors in all of the major territories, financing groups, and potential co-producers in a variety of territories. He has negotiated pre-sale contracts for the film productions he has been involved with and has acted as sales agent for all of the films in H3O’s library.
Rod is active in the creation and development of the stories that H3O has on its current production slate and is a hands-on producer from the conception of the idea through to financing and physical production and post-production. Rod now holds the position of Managing Director of H3O and is responsible for overseeing both the production and distribution activities of the company.
As a B.C.-native and Vancouver resident Rod is committed to advancing his career in the independent film community in Vancouver and looks forward to bringing more production work to the province.
